Man dies after experiencing chest pains

Police in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) are probing the death of a 57-year-old miner who reportedly passed away on Thursday, shortly after complaining of feeling unwell.

Dead is Edvaldo Coutinho Torres of Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Police Headquarters said Torres died around 05:00 hrs at Sand Hill Backdam, Mazaruni, Region 7.

According to a Police report, investigations so far revealed that Torres was preparing for the day’s work when he started experiencing severe chest pains.

The man, nevertheless, went to take a bath. Sometime after, he was found lying on the ground motionless. Police did not say who found Torres but noted that the matter was subsequently reported to the police.

Torres’ body was eventually examined; no visible marks of violence were observed.

The man’s body is at the Bartica Hospital mortuary awaiting transportation to the Georgetown Public Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
