A single mother is pleading for any assistance that can be provided to her and her four children after the Smithfield, New Amsterdam, Region Six house they were living in collapsed on Thursday afternoon.

Tiffany Waldron, 29, told the News Room that she heard a strange sounds just moments before tragedy struck.

“After I hear the cracking, all I know is that the house just collapse and I pitch in me kitchen and my two-year-old (child) pitch too.

“A bannister fall and knock my 10-year-old (child) on her foot too,” Waldron recounted.

The woman also said her other two children, aged 12 and 11, were in the yard downstairs and were lucky that they were not underneath the building when it collapsed. If they were not out of harm’s way, the single mother fears the tragedy would have been much worse.

Still, the woman’s house and many of the items inside, including the refrigerator and furniture, were damaged. The family, Waldron said, is forced to remain in this dilapidated structure because they have nowhere else to go at this time.

Waldron and her children have been living at the location for many years. The house belonged to her former mother-in-law but when the woman passed, the family of five remained there.

The single mom is hoping that persons can assist her in rebuilding a safe place for her family to live in since she is financially unable to do so.

Persons willing to assist Waldron and her children can contact her on 707-1062.

She also expressed concern that the structure could even collapse further and they will be left at the mercy of the weather elements.
