Women arrested after $3M worth of drugs found at premises

Lorlyne Jefferys was arrested on Saturday after approximately 10 kilogrammes (or about 22 pounds) of marijuana was found at her Tabatinga, Lethem premises in Region Nine (Upper Takutu- Upper Essequibo).

According to a press release from the Customs Anti Narcotic Unit (CANU), nine parcels of suspected cannabis were found wrapped in plastic.

After the discovery was made, Jefferys was arrested and escorted to the Lethem Police Station with the suspected narcotics.

The narcotics were confirmed to be cannabis; altogether, the parcels carry a street value of $3 million.

CANU said investigations are ongoing.
