Duo arrested for shooting at businessman; illegal possession of firearm, ammo

Police ranks on Monday arrested two men and retrieved an unlicensed firearm that was allegedly used to shoot at a 24-year-old businessman at Riverview, Ruimvedlt, Georgetown moments earlier.

The incident occurred at about 23:20hrs at the Lot 2 Riverview home where the businessman and his wife operate a shop.

Police Headquarters said investigations revealed that the couple was inside their shop which is situated in front of their house when the businessman observed the suspects approaching.

“As they (suspects) reached his shop, one of the suspects pulled out a handgun from the waist of his pants and discharged a round in his direction, but the bullet did not hit him,” Police explained in a statement.

It further noted that the businessman and his wife ran into their yard and took cover.

The suspects made good their escape on foot.

A report was made to the Police and ranks went to Norton and Chapel Streets, Lodge where the suspects were contacted.

“As the ranks were approaching the men, they observed one took out a handgun from his right side pants waist and threw it on the ground,” Police said.

The firearm was retrieved and it was observed to be a 9MM pistol with a magazine containing three live 9MM ammunition.

 

The suspects were told of the offenses, arrested and cautioned. They are currently in custody.
