A shootout between Police and a wanted man ended deadly on Tuesday at Bachelor’s Adventure, East Coast Demeara.
Dead is 26-year-old William De Abreu whom the Police Force issued a wanted bulletin for on May 17, 2023, in connection with a series of robberies.
Police Headquarters in a statement on Wednesday noted that ranks received information at about 15:30 hrs that the suspect was seen in Bachelor’s Adventure.
The cops claimed that De Abreu drew a firearm and discharged several rounds in their direction when they arrived at the location.
“Ranks took cover and discharged several rounds in his direction. He (De Abreu) subsequently fell to the ground where one .32 Taurus Pistol and a magazine containing 3 live rounds were recovered from his hand,” the Police press release noted.
His body was examined and one gunshot wound was seen to his right chest and one each to both feet. De Abreu was escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he succumbed at about 17:50 hrs while receiving medical treatment.
Ranks took possession of the firearm and magazine containing ammunition and lodged same at the Vigilance Police Station. Investigations are in progress.
