Venezuelan national stabbed to death by man who attempted to rob his wife

A 37-year-old Venezuelan national was fatally stabbed on Sunday during an argument with his attacker who allegedly tried to steal his wife’s purse at Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

The dead man has been identified as Oscar Sanchez, a resident of Eccles, EBD.

Police Headquarters said they are investigating the incident which occurred around 04:30hrs in the vicinity of Blast Beer Garden, located at Grove, EBD.

The suspect, who is said to also be a Venezuelan national is known to Sanchez and his wife, Avie Mario Leane Tores, who is employed at the bar where the incident occurred.

Police said he fled the scene on foot and is yet to be apprehended.

Investigations, the Police said, revealed that Tores had just finished working and she and Sanchez were imbibing in front her workplace.

Some of the couple’s friends, who are all Venezuelans had also joined them. They were all standing on the pavement in front of the bar.

According to the Police, whilst there, the suspect allegedly approached Tores and tried to steal her purse which she had in her left hand.

This caused Sanchez to intervene and an argument ensued between him and the suspect.

During the process, the suspect, who was armed with a knife allegedly stabbed Sanchez several times about his body.

Sanchez fell to the ground where he remained motionless.

The Police was contacted and Sanchez body was examined marks were observed on Sanchez left side shoulder, back, elbow, throat, lower rib and his right thumb.

Investigators have located CCTV cameras which they will review as the investigation continues.
