KFC Guyana has collaborated with the Vurlon Mills Football Academy to host the annual KFC Summer Football Camp from July 10 to 23, 2023 at the Saints ground Carifesta avenue Georgetown.
The Vurlon Mills Football Academy was established in 2019, and have successfully brought the sport to hundreds of children between the ages of three – 17.
With KFC Guyana’s support, all equipment will be provided for the camp which will see 100 youths including 40 from Sophia and Buxton engaged in a two weeks period with football development and life skills in the first week and the second week age specific tournaments for the U9, U11, U13 Boys and U16 Girls.
KFC Guyana Marketing Manager Mrs. Pamela Manasseh reiterated Beharry Restaurant Holdings and KFC Guyana commitment to continued investment in children and youths.
She said, “A lot of times you realize people are not focused on our youths and what they have to offer. And developing them and the new generation is what’s going to take us where we want to go.”
“All of us are not going to be firemen, policemen, army… but we’re going to be somebody who we want to be through our children, and that is what is important.”
Coach Vurlon Mills thanked KFC Guyana for their support and praised their contribution to the camp, and towards removing barriers that make the sport less accessible to children from underserved communities.
“We are targeting kids from the Buxton community and the Sophia community. Transportation will be provided for them because we know the challenges they face to get to the venue. So transportation will come in, bringing them to the camp and taking them back.”
Mills says this camp will not be focused on elite players, but rather children who want to learn to play but have never had the opportunity.
Assistant Director of Sport Franklin Wilson, speaking on behalf of the Honorable Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Charles Ramson Jr. and the Director of Sports Steve Ninvalle, commended Mills for this programme, highlighting the importance of establishing a strong nursery for the sport.
