A strong line-up of under-19 Guyanese girls have departed for Trinidad and Tobago to play in the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Rising Stars Women’s Under-19 tournament.

The opening round of the tournament bowls off on July 04 with Guyana squaring off against Windward Islands at Gilbert Park.

The aforementioned match will be complemented by two more exciting games; Leeward Islands battling Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago battling Barbados, completing Round 1’s trio of matches.

Guyana is set to field a strong team, with five (5) national players from the Women’s senior team including Ashmini Munisar the skipper, Realanna Grimmond, Cyanna Retemiah, Tilleya Madramootoo and Nya Latchman, make up the core of Guyana’s team.

Grimmond and company played for Guyana during the recent CWI Women’s Senior 50-Overs and T20 tournaments and is expected to play a big role for their team. They will seek to lead the likes of young players such as Naomi Barkoye, Sarah Amin, Emlissa Whyte and other upcoming stars who will need the leadership and experience of their more senior teammates if Guyana will have any chance of winning this year’s tournament.

The Guyana team was encamped for little over a week at the GCB LBI Facility alongside Coach Tremayne Smartt and Manager Hema Singh, as part of the team’s gelling and training preparations ahead of the competition, which is expected to be of the highest level in women’s U19 cricket.
