Police arrest man accused of beating mother of one to death

Fisherman Shivnand Henry, 29, was arrested by the police hours after he is accused of beating his partner to death.

According to the Guyana Police Force, Shivnanand Henry was arrested one day after the incident occurred.
“The murder suspect was just arrested,” the Public Relations Officer Mark Ramotar confirmed.

Henry is being held in custody after a 48-year-old mother of one died Sunday morning following reports of being brutally beaten by him during an argument at their Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara (WCD) home.

Dead is Bibi Naseefa Baksh.

Police Headquarters said the incident occurred between 04:30hrs and 05:30hrs.

Reports are that Baksh and Henry shared a relationship and were living together with the suspect’s 61-year-old mother and Baksh’s 12-year-old daughter.

According to the Police, the couple would frequently fight and argue.

Police said the couple was imbibing when the argument erupted.

During the process, Police said Henry started to beat Baksh.

“…Kicking her down wooden stairs and dragging her to the roadway, where he dealt her several kicks and lashes with a piece of wood about her body,” Police explained.

Afterwards, Police said Baksh was assisted into the house and taken to her room by the suspect and her daughter.

Shortly after, she was observed motionless on her bed.

There were wounds to her forehead, shoulder, arms and knees.

The suspect left the house and went in an unknown direction.

An alarm was raised by Baksh’s daughter and the Police were summoned.

Baksh’s body was escorted to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

A post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted soon.

    I am wondering, whether the accused was born from a woman? It does not appear so. I irks me when I consider how cruel some people could be.. I do hope that justice is served in this case. My sympathy goes out to the mother, daughter and other relatives. May her soul rest in peace.
