Kilcoy/Chesney labourer stabbed to death

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the brutal killing of a 29-year-old man from the Kilcoy/Chesney Settlement, Corentyne, Berbice, who was found dead with blood oozing from his neck just after midnight Tuesday.

Dead is Leon Kum.

Kum, along with his nephew Michael Ramnarine and Michael’s wife, lived in a zinc shack on a dam in the area.

On Tuesday night, Kum opted to sleep in a hammock under a shed nearby to the shack, because “place hot,” said Sattie Ramotar, Ramnarine’s mother-in-law, who lived opposite.

Ramotar said she spent the day Tuesday with Kum and the others and went home in the evening.

According to her, she was cooking around 01:00 hr Wednesday when she heard noise from the shack as if something was hitting it.

When she inquired, she saw her son-in-law running after someone on a bicycle.

Ramotar said she ran out of her house and ventured over to the shack where she saw Kum in a slumped position with blood oozing from his neck.

The Police were called in and are investigating.

One person is in custody.

Regional Commander Shivpersaud Bacchus confirmed that the incident occurred and said the Police were looking for identifiable suspects.
