See full statement from the CDC below:

The Civil Defence Commission (CDC) yesterday responded to reports of High Winds Impact which affected several homes at Union, Trafalgar and Bel Air; villages of Mahaica-Berbice (Region 5).

The Commission dispatched an assessment team to the Region after confirming the reports with the Neighborhood Democratic Council (NDC) Vice-Chairperson. Apart from structural damage to homes due to the high winds, some residents also reported flood impacts.

Initial assessments revealed that six (6) homes and accompanying structures were damaged by the winds. Persons living in No. 28 and No. 29 Villages (Union) suffered damaged roofs, broken pillars and posts, and a dismantled chicken pen. The CDC team there distributed tarpaulins so as to improvise as temporary shelters and to protect household items of the affected residents.

Assessments of Trafalgar and Bel Air will be conducted today and a subsequent report will illustrate those findings.

Persons countrywide are urged to take precautions where necessary and to report any impacts to local authorities or the National Emergency Monitoring System (NEMS) on 600-7500 or 226-1114 at any time.
