One dead, another injured in head-on collision

An accident involving two motorcycles at the 72 Miles trail, near the Kaburi Village in Region Seven, claimed the life of a 53-year-old motorcyclist and left another seriously injured.

Dead is Leroy Richards of Kaburi Village, 72 Miles, Bartica-Potaro Road.

The injured man has been identified as 18-year-old Maric Hendricks.

Police Headquarters said they are investigating the accident which occurred around 18:30 hrs on Monday.

Richard was riding his motorcycle (#CK 4766) while

Hendricks was driving an unregistered motorcycle.

According to the Police, enquires disclosed that Richards was proceeding north along the eastern side of the trail when, Hendricks, who was allegedly speeding south along the said trail, lost control and collided head on with Richards.

As a result of the collision, both motorcyclists fell onto the road surface and received injuries about their heads and bodies.

They were subsequently picked up by public-spirited persons in an unconscious condition taken to the Bartica Hospital.

Richards was pronounced dead. Meanwhile, Hendricks received treatment for a fractured skull and was later transferred to Georgetown Public Hospital; his condition is serious.
