The multi-talented Johnathan Van Lange led Demerara to a whopping 202-run win over Essequibo when the Guyana Cricket Board Under-17 Inter-county tournament continued Monday at the Everest Cricket Ground.

Demerara posted a mammoth 272 for 9 in 50 overs, thanks mainly to their skipper, Van Lange, who hammered 158 from just 85 balls.

He struck 17 sixes and just four fours in a brutal batting display.

He got support from opener Vikash Wilson (34) and Nityana Mathura (25).

Just Gulcharan Chulai, who claimed 3-11 off ten overs, and Royden Morris (2-17) managed to land significant blows with the ball for Essequibo.

In reply, Essequibo folded for 70 runs, with Govin Persaud leading with 17.

Demerara’s bowlers were relentless, as Stephon Sankar, Mathura, Van Lange, and Shane Prince all bagged two wickets.

Matches continue  Tuesday at the Everest Cricket Ground, where Demerara faces GCB Select XI from 10:30h.
