More than a week after a lone thief allegedly broke into his Herstelling, East Bank Demerara (EBD) house and carted off with more than $200,000 in cricket gears and other valuables, national cricketer Ashmead Nedd says the suspect allegedly promised to return to the stolen items.

However, to date, the suspect is yet to deliver on his promise. In a telephone interview with the News Room on Wednesday, Nedd said he woke up to attend to his daughter when he discovered that the back door and kitchen window of his house was broken into.

The incident occurred during the wee hours of June 30.

Nedd shares the house with his father, Garvin Nedd, the Assistant Coach of the Guyana Harpy Eagles cricket team and his family.

Upon checking, the younger Nedd told the News Room that his father discovered his cell phone was missing and a room was also ransacked.

Other items that were stolen include a PS5 console and Guyana Amazon Warriors cricket gear. The items are estimated to be worth over $200,000.

“I looked at the TV for my PS 5 console [and] that was also missing. One of the bedrooms was ransacked. A few Amazon Warriors pieces and other cricket gears were missing,” the younger Nedd related.

Shortly after the break-in, Nedd explained that he noticed some strange movements in the area.

“About 70 meters away which I believe was something concerning the incident because the dogs were barking viciously,” he said.

A report was immediately made to the Police.

During the investigation, Nedd told the News Room that an individual was detained by the Police but he was released without being charged after reportedly promising to return the stolen items.

“The Police arrest the person due to the information that he had given us saying that he is going to take us to give us our stuff…He didn’t do that…I ain’t really know if it going to happen or not,” Nedd explained.

He added, “I ain’t really know what to say, to be honest. If anything will come out.”
