In a thrilling finale of the Eessequibo Cricket Board/Junior Pathway Under-13 40 Overs tournament, sponsored by US-based Silas Family, Pomeroon/North Essequibo U-13 emerged victorious against South Essequibo U-13.

The match showcased exceptional performances from young talents, with Makaya Holmes leading the way with an all-round display to secure the championship win for his team.

South Essequibo U-13 lost the toss and were put in to bat first, setting a target of 91 runs for Pomeroon/North Essequibo U-13.

Their innings concluded with a score of 90, with Zaheer Ramkissoon leading the charge, contributing a top score of 23 runs.

However, Tyrese Stephney and Makaya Holmes proved formidable with the ball, taking three wickets each, while Darius Pearson, the National Under-13 all-rounder, chipped in with two wickets.

In reply, Pomeroon/North Essequibo U-13 faced a challenging task but achieved victory with just one wicket in hand.

Holmes, showcasing his remarkable all-round skills, delivered a stellar performance, scoring an unbeaten 50 runs to guide his team to the title.

National U-13 batter Ravid Fredericks starred with the ball, claiming four wickets, while Jathaniel Nurse picked up three. Zaheer Ramkissoon and Arif Singh contributed with one wicket each

The post-match ceremony recognized the outstanding performances throughout the tournament.

Makaya Holmes was awarded the Finals Man of the Match for his exceptional all-round contribution, scoring 50 runs and taking three wickets in the final.

Holmes also claimed the trophy for the leading run scorer, accumulating an impressive total of 78 runs in four matches.

Tyrese Stephney received recognition as the player with the most wickets, securing 14 dismissals in four matches, including a five-for. His consistent bowling played a crucial role in his team’s success.

The Most Valuable Player award went to Usain Fredericks for his all-round brilliance. Fredericks scored 57 runs and picked up eight wickets during the tournament, showcasing his immense potential.

The ECB/Junior Pathway Under-13 40 Overs tournament served as a platform to identify talent for the upcoming Guyana Cricket Board U-13 inter-county competition, scheduled to commence on July 18, 2023.

Following the tournament’s conclusion, a 22-man squad was selected for encampment and preparation for the inter-county competition.

The squad comprises young and promising talents who exhibited their skills during the tournament.

Among the notable names are Joseph Bholo, Makayah Holmes, Mark Daniels, Darius Pearson, Usain Fredericks, Tyrese Stephany, Jaden Fredericks, Justin Henry, Etan Silas, Bumeshwar Lall, Jonathan Barry, Arav Sukram, Zaheer Ramkissoon, Jathaniel Nurse, Arif Singh, Ravid Fredericks, Marc Obermoller, Mark Daniel, Kevin Benjamin, Otis Roberts, Aron Decosta, and Justin Dowlin.
