Emanuel Hawker, a 23-year-old unemployed man from West Ruimveldt, Georgetown is currently under Police guard at the Georgetown Public Hospital, nursing a gunshot wound, following an attempt to commit a robbery on Friday.

A Police statement on Saturday noted that the incident occurred at about 12:00 hrs outside the Rio Night Club in Queenstown, Georgetown.

Hawker is alleged to have committed the armed attack on four female Venezuelan nationals who are all staying at the Rio Nightclub.

The victims are:

    1. Maria Peraz, a 27-year-old female (robbed of one Samsung cellphone valued at $50,000)
    2. Jenineth Salozar, a 21-year-old female (two cell phones valued at $40,000 and $50,000)
    3. Karla Meza, a 21-year-old female (one blue Samsung cellphone valued at $26,000)
    4. Jonan Fiqueroa, a 35-year-old female (one blue Samsung S9 valued at $40,000)

Investigations revealed that the women were in their apartments when Hawker entered the building through an open door. He pulled out a suspected .32 Revolver from the waist of his pants and began to kick open the room doors, where the victims were.

Hawker relieved the women of their cell phones, the Police said.

The matter was reported to the Alberttown Police Station.

As a result, Police ranks on mobile patrol immediately responded to the report, and as the ranks approached the building, the suspect was seen walking down the step with the firearm in his right hand.

The patrol ranks called on him to drop the gun and surrender himself, but instead, the suspect discharged three rounds in the direction of the Police ranks, forcing them to take cover, the statement added.

One of the ranks returned fire at the suspect, hitting him on his right thigh. The suspect fell to the ground with the firearm. He was picked up by the ranks and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he is presently seeking medical attention under guard.

The victims’ cell phones were recovered in the suspect’s pants pockets.

Seven live .32 ammunition were found in the suspect’s right side pants pocket. The Police also retrieved the firearm (a .32 Revolver, serial number filed off).

Three spent shells, and three live .32 rounds were found in the chamber.

Investigations are in progress, and the suspect is slated to be charged.
