Man dies after hit by fallen tree branch

A so far unidentified man died on Monday after he was allegedly struck by a limb that broke off of a tree while he was working at 42 Miles BackdamNorth West District (NWD), Region One.

The man is of Amerindian descent.

The incident occurred around 08:30hrs.

Police Headquarters said the dead man was employed with a dredge operation owned by Diane David, a 34-year-old businesswoman, who was in the process of establishing a mining operation at 42 Miles Backdam, NWD.

Inquiries, the Police said, revealed that the dead man and another man, who has been identified as Dwayne Fredericks were clearing an area to set up a camp when a limb broke off from a tree and struck the dead man to his chest.

Fredericks told the Police that the dead man was immediately placed into a car and taken to the Port Kaituma District Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Police were informed and the dead man’s body was examined. There were abrasions to his chest area.

The dead man’s body is at the Port Kaituma Hospital mortuary awaiting identification and a post-mortem examination.
