Junior CASA: Verwey and Gomes win Mixed Doubles gold for Guyana

Nicholas Verwey and Kirsten Gomes secured Guyana’s fourth gold medal at the ongoing Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Junior Championships in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The duo, who are also team captains, topped Jamaicans Alex Chin and Sanjana Nallapati 11-8, 11-7 to win the Mixed Doubles title.

Two more bronze medals were gained from Avery Arjoon and Safirah Sumner, who lost 6-11, 8-11 to Barbadians Sumairaa Suleman and Eboni Atherley in the semi-finals of the Girls’ Doubles.

Likewise, Michael Alphonso Jr. and Mohryan Baksh lost to Jamaicans Tobias Levy and Lukas Thomson in the semi-finals of the Boys’ Doubles.

In the individual segment Verwey, Arjoon, and Louis DaSilva won gold.

Verwey followed up his Under-17 gold in 2022 with gold at the Under-19 level, while Arjoon did the same, adding to her Under-13 gold last year with gold in the Under-15.

DaSilva won his first Caribbean gold when he defeated Baksh in the Under-17 final.

Gomes (U-19), Kaylee Lowe (U-13) and Baksh (U-17) won silver medals while  Ethan Bulkan (under-11), Justin TenPow (Under-13), and  Alphonso Jr. (Under-19) copped bronze.
