Thirty-year-old Dwayne Lawrence of North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Thursday where he was sentenced for the possession of a 9mm pistol and matching ammunition without being the holder of a firearm’s license.
Lawrence appeared before Magistrate Annette Singh who sentenced him to one year imprisonment after he was found guilty at the end of the trial.
The court heard that Lawrence was found with the weapon on July 11, 2023, at Kitty Public Road, Georgetown, by Police ranks who intercepted an Allion car with registration number PAB 1037.
Lawrence was the driver of the car and while nothing illegal was found inside the vehicle, the ranks found the weapon and six matching rounds on his person following a search.
