Mahaica man busted with $1.3M in cocaine

Ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) on Thursday arrested a 52-year-old man following the discovery of 2.7 lbs of cocaine at Belmont squatting area, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara.

A press release from CANU noted that its ranks conducted an operation at the premises of Suresh Persaud when they discovered several parcels of a whitish substance suspected to be cocaine in his possession.

He was arrested and escorted to CANU Headquarters with the suspected narcotic, which tested positive for cocaine.

CANU said the cocaine has a street value of approximately $1.3 million.
