Twenty-six-year-old Keifer Lindore of Great Diamond, East Bank Demerara, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, charged with the illegal possession of 108 grams of cannabis.

Lindore, a prison officer who is attached to the Camp Street Prison in Georgetown, appeared before Chief Magistrate (ag), Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus where he pleaded not guilty.

The court heard that on the day in question, Lindore was slated to undergo a drug test, and at around 22:00 hrs, he entered the prison compound and had to subject himself to a body search.

It is alleged that Lindore threw two bottles of Ensure over the prison fence and when it was retrieved, ranks observed that one of the bottles contained leaves and stems suspected to be cannabis while the other contained ‘fronto’ and ‘bamboo.’

The court prosecutor objected to bail based on the prevalence and seriousness of the offence, and on the grounds that eyewitness statements and CCTV footage will be used as evidence in the case.

Bail was refused and Lindore was remanded to prison until August 2, 2023.
