A brilliant all-round performance from Bhomesh Lall enabled Essequibo to capture the Guyana Cricket Board’s U-13 Inter-county title with a 15-run win over Demerara at the weekend at the GCC ground, Bourda.

Scores in the match: Essequibo 118 all out from 37.4 overs, Demerara 103-9 from 40 overs.

The Essequibo team endured a few hiccups as they lost wickets at regular intervals, but it never kept them out of the contest as they clawed their way back to victory.

Their batting revolved around top-scorer Lall, who made 41 at the top of the order, which helped his side to reach 118 all out in 37.4 overs, after losing a few key batters.

Mark Daniels (10) and Usain Fredericks (11) were the other two players to reach double digits as Brandon Henry again was the instrument of destruction with figures of 4-12 with Makai Dowlin grabbing 3-22.

Essequibo then turned on the pressure as they sought to defend a low score and they pulled it off with relative ease after keeping Demerara to 103-9 by the time 40 overs had expired.

Demerara’s only hope amidst their four run outs was Reyad Latiff (22), who was one of the unfortunate victims of poor communication between the wickets and a spirited knock of 10 not out from Dowlin, as not much was offered by their teammates who were unable to reach double figures.

Bowling for Essequibo, Lall returned to capture 3-19, while Etan Silas and Makayan Holmes supported with a wicket each to help their side seal the win.

Lall, for his runs and wickets, was adjudicated the Player-of-the-Match. Demerara, for their good effort, were given the runners-up trophy. (Modified Press Release by the Guyana Cricket Board)
