Nurse, husband on $1.5M bail each over multi-million raw gold theft

A 22-year-old nurse and her 25-year-old husband, accused of stealing 208 ounces of raw worth more than $76M, were on Monday charged with the crime and were each placed on $1.5M bail.

Anjali Singh-Mangal and Rohan Mangal, a bus driver of Lot 69 Delph Street, Campbellville, Georgetown appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly at Georgetown Magistrates’ Court Two.

They were charged with stealing 208 ounces of raw gold valued $76,960,000, belonging to Deepak Persaud between September 1, 2022 and July 19, 2023 at Sandy Babb Street, Kitty.

The Mangals pleaded not guilty to the charge which was laid contrary to Section 164 of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act Chapter 8:01.

The matter was adjourned to August 14 for report on the status of the investigation.
