The Guyana Police Force (GPF) ranks arrested a miner for possession of cocaine and marijuana at the Vreed-en-Hoop stelling, West Bank Demerara on Tuesday.
In a statement on Wednesday, Police Headquarters said the man claimed he bought the illegal substances for a girl.
The GPF said the man, Derwin Green, 31, of Tuschen New Scheme, West Coast Demerara remains in police custody as the investigation is ongoing.
The man was arrested at about 20:30 hrs on Tuesday after Police ranks from Regional Division #3 acted on information received and went to the Stelling. The police conducted a search of Green
During the search, a rank found a black plastic bag which had three white transparent plastic bags containing a whitish rocklike substance suspected to be Cocaine in the right side pocket on the man’s pants.
Green told the ranks, “I just buy this thing from town fuh black girl”. He was then arrested and escorted to the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Outpost.
The man was arrested and taken to a police outpost where a rank conducted a further search on Green and found a clear transparent plastic bag containing a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be Cannabis in the waist of Green’s Boxer shorts.
The suspected Cocaine was weighed in the presence of Green and Police ranks, and it amounted to 38.5 grammes, while the suspected marijuana was weighed and amounted to 13.8 grammes.
