Rush for tickets as CPL fever hits Guyana
After a period of online ticket sales, the sale of physical tickets for the Guyana leg of the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League commenced on Tuesday at the box office on Camp Street, Georgetown.
Guyana is set to host a total 10 matches- four Guyana Amazon Warriors home games, two neutral ones, the knockouts and grand final- from September 13-24 at the National Stadium, Providence.
A sizeable crowd had flocked the ticket office by the time the door was officially opened at 08:50h, with the first person in line, a young man from Berbice, having taken up his spot at the stroke of midnight.
“We leave home 8pm last night (Monday), reached here at 10 o’clock and take a nap in the car…at 12 o’clock we start lining up,” he told the media.

While the sacrifice of he and his family saw them leaving early with the desired tickets in their possession, it wasn’t the same for others, many of whom had to sacrifice a day’s work just to get to the booth.
Others, who, in their wisdom, opted to report ‘sick’ in the hope of securing their prized tickets, were left dodging the media cameras, and the TikTokers.
In terms of the general operations, the assembling of persons within the compound of the box office was relatively smooth, but it was the slothfulness of the ticketing process that left lots of persons frustrated.
Three booths operated for the most part of the day, a number that many felt should have been increased given the usual rush for tickets.
“Every year is the same problem,” one man was overheard saying.
“They need to employ more people.”
Not surprisingly, there was a high demand for tickets for the Guyana Amazon Warriors versus Trinbago Knight Riders mega clash on September 16, and a sold out crowd is anticipated for this CPL showpiece.
“That’s the hottest game- Curry Chicken versus Chicken Curry,” one fan told News Room Sport.
