Shaquille Goodluck, 24, who is accused of posing as a customer and robbing the owner of the Al Madina Supermarket located at Kitty Public Road, Georgetown back in January is now charged and remanded to prison for the crime.

He appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday before Acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus to answer to the armed robbery charge which he denied.

It is alleged that on January 04, 2023, while in the company of another and armed to wit a gun, he robbed Hamed Asmi of one Iphone 10 valued at $150,000 and $200,000 in cash.

Police Prosecutor Quincy Lacon objected to bail, citing the seriousness and prevalence of the offence while noting that CCTV cameras captured him in the act and a wanted bulletin was issued by the Guyana Police Force.

Bail was refused and the defendant was remanded to prison until August 16 for statements

The court heard that on the day in question, at about 19:00 hours, Asmi was in his Supermarket, seated at the cashier register, when Goodluck along with another male entered the store and pretended to be customers.

They held Asmi at gunpoint and robbed him of the mentioned articles.

The men then made good their escape on a motorcycle.

Police recently arrested the accused and told him of the allegation made against him. He was cautioned and admitted to being a part of the robbery.

Further investigations were carried out and the accused was charged with possession of ammunition in 2022 but that matter was dismissed.
