Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hugh Todd, on Friday met with China’s Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, in Chengdu, China, where the two officials committed to strengthening unity and cooperation and deepening cooperation at the bilateral level.
Minister Todd is part of President Irfaan Ali’s delegation to China and earlier in the day, a bilateral meeting was held between Ali and the President of China, Xi Jinping.
The Chinese Foreign Minister, in his meeting with Todd, described the bilateral meeting as “fruitful”, noting that it sent a “clear signal to the outside world that China and Guyana should strengthen unity and cooperation and realize common development.”
He added, “We should work together, guided by the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, to deepen cooperation in various fields and promote the sustained and in-depth development of China-Guyana relations.”
Meanwhile, Minister Todd said that over the past 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, Guyana and China have always trusted and supported each other.
“The relationship between the two countries is strong and has a bright future. Guyana unswervingly abides by the one-China principle and is a reliable strategic partner of China. It is believed that China will continue to demonstrate global leadership, lead developing countries to unite, and jointly promote South-South cooperation,” the Guyanese Foreign Minister noted.
