Motorcycle bandits rob Corentyne businessman of $5.5M cash

Police in Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) are on the hunt for two motorcycle bandits who allegedly held a businessman at gunpoint and robbed him of $5.5M in cash on Thursday.

Police Headquarters said they are investigating the robbery which took place around 17.45hrs, shortly after 44year-old Makarrak Singh returned to his Belvedere Corentyne, Berbice home.

According to the Police, the cash was in a bag which was on the front passenger seat the canter truck, GAC 1261 which Singh was driving.

Initial investigation, the Police said, revealed that the bandits, one of whom was armed with a gun, approached the businessman on a red and white XR motorcycle, held him at gunspoint and demanded that he hand over the bag.

In fear, the businessman complied after which the bandits made good their escape.

The robbery was captured on surveillance cameras.

No injuries were reported.

    The Govt. needs to give every big businessmen firearm license. When the previous administration was there every man in the street were given a license. These business people self protection. Come on Benn , change your approach in granting legible people a firearm license. This trend is causing the business community to shy away from the PPP. The PPP need to do something now or never.
