Men escape police, leave bags with 27lbs of marijuana behind

Police in Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) are looking for two men who escaped on Saturday after they dropped two bags containing 27 pounds of marijuana.

Police Headquarters said ranks were conducting mobile patrol duty in the vicinity of Edinburgh Village, East Bank Berbice at about 5:30hrs, when they observed the men walking.

They were carrying two bulky bags on their shoulders.

“The ranks called out to the men, who subsequently dropped the bags and started running towards the nearby cane field. The ranks gave chase, but the men managed to escape,” the statement noted.

The bags were searched and they both contained seeds, leaves and stems suspected to be cannabis sativa.

Both bags were taken to the Central Police Station in New Amsterdam, Berbice, where the narcotics was weighed and amounted to 27 pounds.
