Guyanese athlete Gabriel Lim has achieved a remarkable milestone in his athletic and academic journey, securing a full Division 1 (D1) scholarship at Southeastern Louisiana University.
This scholarship will enable him to pursue his passion for Construction Engineering Technology while continuing to showcase his talents in the discus and javelin throws.
Earlier this year, Gabriel set three ambitious goals for himself before participating in the prestigious Penn Relays in Pennsylvania.
He aimed to break his personal best, clinch the victory in the High School Boys Javelin Throw, and secure a Division 1 scholarship.
Remarkably, at the Penn Relays, Gabriel accomplished two of his objectives by achieving a new personal best of 61.24m and claiming victory in the event.
Now, just three months later, the 19-year-old athlete from Jamaica College has signed with Southeastern Louisiana University, marking a significant step forward in his career.
Overwhelmed and humbled by his achievements, Gabriel expressed his gratitude to God for providing him with strength and guidance throughout his journey.
In an interview with News Room Sport, Gabriel outlined his future aspirations, stating that he aims to work towards breaking two senior National records and qualifying for major championship meets during his collegiate career.
This determination and dedication are sure to make him a standout athlete at South Eastern Louisiana University.
Gabriel’s success wouldn’t have been possible without the support of his coaches and family.
He conveyed his appreciation to Throws Coach Rajive Ford, Distance Coach at Jamaica College Duane Johnson, and Coach Andy Medas King, who played a pivotal role in initiating his short stint in Jamaica.
Above all, he expressed heartfelt gratitude to his mother, Joyce Mcbean, and the rest of his family, whose unwavering support has been a driving force behind his achievements.
