A 25-year-old man from Vigilance, East Coast Demerara (ECD), and a 29-year-old man from Buxton, ECD, were arrested on Wednesday morning after Police Officers found a gun hidden in the pants crotch of one of the men.

Police Headquarters reported that both men are construction workers and they were nabbed at the Melanie market area, ECD.

It was noted that at about 05:00hrs Wednesday, ranks from the Vigilance Police Station’s Anti-Crime Patrol received reports that a firearm was discharged at the market area.

When Police Officers arrived at the scene, the two men were observed acting suspiciously. As such, the ranks stopped and searched them and their personal belongings.

During the search, a black metal object, suspected to be a firearm, was found in one of the suspect’s pants crotch.

Police Headquarters did not specify which man had the gun, but noted that he failed to produce a firearm license. As such, the man was told of the offence, cautioned and arrested.

Both men were then taken to the Vigilance Police Station; the firearm was also inspected and observed to be a .32 Taurus Pistol (without number).

Both suspects were swabbed and placed into Police custody pending further investigations.
