Shamal Charles, a 20-year-old prison officer attached to the Georgetown Prison died Sunday night following a hit-and-run accident.
Police Headquarters reported that the accident occurred around 19:50hrs at Swan Village, Soesdyke/Linden Highway.
Police Headquarters reported that Charles, also a resident of Swan, allegedly ran across the road when a motor car collided with him.
The car was proceeding south along the eastern side of the road at a fast rate, Police said.
According to the Police, the registration number of the vehicle and details of the driver who fled the scene remains unknown.
As a result of the collision, Charles fell onto the roadway where he sustained injuries to his body including his head.
He was picked up, placed into a passing vehicle, and taken to the Diamond Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
His body is at the Memorial Gardens funeral home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
