Miner, 39, stabbed to death during scuffle with ex-girlfriend’s new partner

The Guyana Police Force is investigating the circumstances of the murder of Calvin Nelson, a 39-year-old Miner from Bartica.

On Monday, a wanted bulletin was issued for Eliuge Allicock who is suspected of committing the crime on August 05, at about 02:30hrs at Honey Camp Backdam, Middle Mazaruni River.

Allicock, a 26-year-old Miner from Hubu, Parika, East Bank Essequibo and also from Issano Landing, Middle Mazaruni, is the boyfriend of a 22-year-old female cook of Tasserene Village, Middle Mazaruni River. The woman was previously in an intimate relationship with Nelson.

According to the Police, she related that on August 04, she and Allicock went to Honey Camp Landing, where they consumed Guinness and became intoxicated. At about 01:00hrs on August 05, they went to Clive Smith’s Shop and continued to drink Guinness.

While at the shop, Nelson approached her, and they had a conversation which caused the suspect to become annoyed. This resulted in him grabbing and assaulting her. This caused Nelson to intervene, resulting in a scuffle between him and the suspect. During the scuffle, the suspect drew a knife and dealt Nelson two stabs.

Nelson escaped and went to a nearby shop where Neville Critchlow, a 65-year-old Construction worker took him to Issano Health Post where he was pronounced dead by Doctor Wilson.

The body was examined, and two stab wounds were observed on his body. Police on Monday issued a wanted bulletin for the man and asked the public for assistance with the ongoing investigation.
