Douglas appeared before Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court.

After entering his guilty plea, Douglas was sentenced to four years imprisonment and fined $39 million, the Customs Anti Narcotic Unit (CANU) said in a statement.

The bust was made by CANU Officers who were conducting a routine operation at a cargo company adjacent to the Cheddi Jagan International Airport at Timehri, East Bank Demerara on Sunday last.

The ranks intercepted a motor car with registration number PWW 5561 that was driven by Douglas.

A subsequent search of the motor car led to the discovery of 23 brick-like parcels of suspected cocaine and a 9mm pistol and a magazine with 14 matching rounds, CANU said in its initial statement after the bust.
