A 33-year-old woman appeared before Chief Magistrate (ag), Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus on Wednesday, accused of extorting some $10 million from a man she claimed she was pregnant for.

Shevaun Bobb of Nelson Street, Mocha, East Bank Demerara, pleaded not guilty to two counts of obtaining money by false pretense.

It is alleged that between December 1 and 11, 2019, at Georgetown, Bobb, with the intent to defraud, obtained from Chidibere Collins Edeh, G$590,000 by falsely pretending that she was pregnant with his child.

It is further alleged that between December 14, 2019 and August 14, 2021, at Georgetown, Bobb with the intent to defraud, obtained from the same man G$9,300,200 by falsely pretending that she had given birth to a child purported to be his.

The court heard that the duo met in 2018 at a club during which Bobb introduced herself as Amelia Gobin; the victim claimed that he lost contact with Bobb after a while but on November 28, 2019, he received a Facebook message from her that she was involved in an accident and needed money for treatment overseas.

The victim claimed that he sent monies to one Shevaun Bobb via MoneyGram and Western Union. He later found out that Bobb was lying to him after which he reported the matter to the Police.

The Police investigation led to the arrest of the woman and the revelation of her real name as Shevaun Bobb.

With no objection from the Prosecutor, Bobb was granted $400,000 bail; she is slated to reappear in court on September 20, 2023.
