Two men were on Wednesday remanded to prison for the alleged robbery of a Canadian citizen which occurred on August 6, 2023, at Croal Street, Georgetown.

Mark Griffith, 20, of Bent Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, and Nicolas Hyman, 25, of Samon Street, Diamond, East Bank Demerara, appeared before Chief Magistrate (ag), Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus where they both pleaded not guilty to the joint charge of armed robbery.

It is alleged that while being armed with a knife, the duo robbed Ross Waters of an iPhone Pro valued at $300,000; US$400; CAN$100 and R$100 (Brazilian currency).

They were both represented attorney Stacy Giddings. The court heard that the victim, a Canadian citizen, was walking along Croal Street when he was attacked by two men armed with a knife; they robbed him of the items mentioned.

They then escaped on a motorcycle west along Croal Street. The court heard that the Police managed to apprehend the two accused and found some of the victim’s items in their possession.

Police Prosecutor, Quincy Lacon, objected to bail based on the seriousness and prevalence of the offence and the fact that CCTV footage captured the incident.

As a result, bail was denied and the duo is slated to appear in court on September 20, 2023.
