Two arrested as CANU intercepts boat with $1.5M in cannabis

Ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) arrested two men following the discovery of more than 10 pounds of cannabis in a boat they were in.

In custody are Steven Seeraj, 22, of Grant 1806 Crabwood Creek, Corentyne Berbice and Anthony Sugrim of Crabwood Creek, Corentyne Berbice.

The discovery was made last Friday at Sandaka Creek, East Berbice-Corentyne.

In a press release, CANU said its officers were conducting an operation when they intercepted a boat, occupied by the two suspects.

A search was carried out on the vessel, and this led to the discovery of two parcels containing a quantity of suspected cannabis, CANU said.

The suspects were arrested and escorted to CANU headquarters.

According to CANU, the narcotics was tested positive for cannabis, with a street value of approximately $ 1.5M.

Investigations are ongoing.
