Friendship man allegedly robs GNBS Inspector

Chris Charles, a 22-year-old unemployed man from Friendship, East Bank Demerara, was arrested on Sunday by a rank from the Grove Police Station and charged on Wednesday for robbery under arms.

Charles is accused of robbing a 22-year-old Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) Inspector of the following items:

One black haversack valued at $7,000, which contained $15,000 cash (GC).

One Republic Bank card.

One dark blue Samsung Galaxy S10 E smartphone, valued at $75,000.

The robbery occurred on Friday, August 11, at about 21:55 hrs at Friendship School Street, East Bank Demerara.

The accused appeared at the Diamond/Golden Grove Magistrates’ before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman, where the charge was read to him, and he pleaded not guilty.

Bail was refused and he was remanded to prison. The matter is adjourned to September 28 for statements.
