Timehri man jailed for trafficking cocaine, alleged accomplice professes innocence

Andrew Rodriguez, 43, of Timehri, East Bank Demerara on Friday appeared before Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Diamond Magistrates’ Court where he pleaded guilty to the charge of trafficking 5lbs of cocaine.

A statement from the Customs Anti Narcotic Unit (CANU) noted that he was sentenced to four years imprisonment and fined $3.2 million.

His alleged accomplice, Duane Joseph, 20, of Soesdyke Public Road, East Bank Demerara was charged with aiding in the commission of the crime.

He too appeared before Magistrate Scarce. Joseph pleaded not guilty and was denied bail. The matter was adjourned to September 19, 2023.

Rodriguez and Joseph were arrested on Tuesday last after CANU Officers discovered four brick-like packages of cocaine at Rodriguez’s residence.

The narcotics weighed approximately 2.160 kg (almost 4.76 lbs.) and had a street value of approximately $ 2.2 million.
