Man, 74, dies in Leonora accident

Ograsane Samaroo, 74, of Stewartville, West Coast Demerara (WCD), died on Monday night after he was involved in an accident on the Leonora Public Road, WCD.

Police Headquarters confirmed that ranks of Region Three are investigating the accident, which occurred around 19:15hrs.

The 54-year-old minibus driver has been arrested and is said to be assisting with the investigation.

According to the Police report, the driver related that he was proceeding east along the northern side of the public road in minibus (BXX 6727), when he observed a black motorcar (PSS 1233), which was facing east on the roadway with its driver side door open.

The driver reportedly related to the Police that Samaroo was attempting to enter the car when he fell onto the roadway, causing the left side front wheel of the bus to run over him.

Samaroo was picked up in an unconscious condition and taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

His body is presently at the Ezekiel Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Police said the driver was subject to a breathalyser test, but no trace of alcohol was found in his system.
