Shopkeeper accused of beating customer to death released on $500K bail
Zamal Samuels, a 27-year-old shopkeeper accused of beating a customer to death, was on Monday released on $500,000 bail.
The man was accused of harming Aaron Conyers.
Samuels of Gaja Landing, North West District, Region One, appeared before Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Mabaruma Magistrate’s Court. It was alleged that Samuels killed Conyers sometime between March 27 and 28 at Black Water Village in the North West District.
In April when he made his initial Court appearance, he faced a manslaughter charge and was not required to enter a plea to the allegations.
On Monday, however, Samuels’ Attorney requested bail. The lawyer posited that his client is not a flight risk and wants to clear his reputation.
The defendant was released by Magistrate Scarce on $500,000 bail with strict reporting requirements. And a preliminary investigation into Conyers’ death was launched.
The matter was adjourned to November 20.
