President Dr. Irfaan Ali on Tuesday announced that the building housing the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) will be renamed in honour of Dr. Roger Luncheon.

Dr. Luncheon, who was the longest serving Secretary to the Guyana Defence Board, was laid to rest on Tuesday. The President made the announcement at a massive funeral service held at the Arthur Chung Conference, Liliendaal.

Based on reports, the Agency is currently in a building along Homestretch Avenue.

At the funeral service, Chief of Staff of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Brigadier Omar Khan reflected on Dr. Luncheon’s role at the Defence Board.

According to him, the political leader was the epitome of “professionalism and sacrifice” and recognised that it was an honour to serve one’s country.

“As the Secretary of the Defence Board, Dr. Luncheon understood this to be so and for me, this is just one way in which we helped to shape and transform our defence force through this alignment of service, professionalism and sacrifice,” the Brigadier said.

He also highlighted that Dr. Luncheon was instrumental in the expansion of the GDF.

“As a result of his strategic vision and dedication to this sector, the GDF became a more formidable and professional force capable of addressing emerging challenges,” the GDF Chief of Staff said.
