A 46-year-old labourer from Parika, East Bank Essequibo, Region Three, was arrested on Saturday for the possession of 49 grammes (or 0.1 pound) of cannabis.
Police Headquarters reported that ranks went to the Parika Access Road, near the Guyana Forestry Commission’s office, at about 13:40 hrs Saturday after receiving information.
There, the officers searched the labourer’s person and found one bulky black plastic bag in his left side pants pocket. The bag contained a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.
The man was told of the offence committed, cautioned, arrested and escorted to the Parika Police Station along with the suspected cannabis.
He remains in custody pending charges.
