The promising career of West Indies Under-19 fast bowler Isai Thorne has been given a significant boost with local company GUYBIZ providing year-round support to the Berbician.

The partnership took effect prior to Thorne travelling to Sri Lanka with the West Indies Under-19 side for the ongoing series.

Through the sponsorship, Thorne will be given quality cricket sneakers throughout the next 12 months.

Chief Executive Officer of GUYBIZ Ishwar Singh, a former Berbice senior wicketkeeper, is very fond of Thorne, as they both hail from the same area in Cumberland village.

Singh is keen on Thorne continuing to progress in the sport, hence his decision to support the young man.

Thorne is currently rated as one of the fastest youth bowler in the Caribbean and hails from the fast rising Rose Hall ‘Canje’ Community Centre Cricket Club.

The club over the last few years has produced three West Indies Women Under-19 cricketers, one of whom (Ashmini Munisar) captained the Caribbean side in the first-ever Women’s Under -19 World Cup.

Munisar also created history by becoming the first-ever international female cricketer from East Canje, Berbice.

Notably, the club has had approximately 50 representations at the Berbice level, 20 at the national level and nine at the West Indies level over the last few years.

“The Rose Hall Canje Cricket Club is extremely happy for the support given to Isai Thorne and wishes to express its gratitude for this initiative from Mr. Ishwar Singh,” the club said.
