Parika men charged for possession of ganja

Two men, who were found with marijuana in two separate instances, were charged on Tuesday.

Police Headquarters reported that Kwame Silas, a 46-year-old Labourer of Parika, East Bank Essequibo, was charged after he was nabbed with 49 grammes of cannabis on Saturday.

Silas was arrested by ranks of the Leonora Police Station. He appeared before Magistrate Zamilla Ali-Seepaul at the Leonora Magistrate Court, where the charge was read to him.

He pleaded not guilty and was placed on $150,000 bail. The matter was postponed to October 23.

Then on Friday, Andy Sam, a 21-year-old labourer of Parika Old Road, East Bank Essequibo, was also arrested by ranks of Leonora Police Station after he was caught with 53 grammes of marijuana.

Sam was also charged on Monday.

He appeared before Magistrate Ali-Seepaul at the Leonora Magistrate Court, where the charge was read to him. He pleaded guilty and was fined $30,000 and sentenced to three months in prison.
