Bartica businessman remanded for allegedly hammering customer to death
Raymond Rupnarine, a 35-year-old businessman of Second Avenue, Bartica, was charged and remanded to prison for the murder of Mark Braithwaite.
Police Headquarters reported that Rupnarine appeared at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court on Thursday and was not required to plea to the charge. The matter was adjourned to September 29, 2023.
Rupnarine was arrested last week for the August 23 murder and was subsequently released on $1 million station bail following advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
On the day in question, Rupnarine reportedly used a hammer to beat Braithwaite following a misunderstanding over the spilling of alcohol.
Police had reported that Rupnarine’s father owns and operates a Blast Gaming Center at Second Avenue.
At about 19:45hrs on August 23, he left his son in charge of the gaming centre when he got into an argument with Braithwaite.
