Christian Carew called ‘Chris Carew,’ a 29-year-old Porknocker of De Kinderen, West Coast Demerara, was arrested on Tuesday and charged Wednesday with the murder of Kerwayne Lindsford Duguid.
The incident occurred at De Kinderen on June 26, 2022.
Police Headquarters reported that Carew appeared before Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul at Leonora Magistrate’s Court where the charge was read to him.
He was not required to plea and was remanded to prison until October 30, 2023, for report.
Police in 2022 said the act was committed by three known suspects. According to a statement from Police Headquarters, at about 22:00hrs on the day in question, Duguid visited the location in search of Jessica Ortiz, a 22-year-old female Venezuelan national, and he was informed by the landlord that she was not at home.
The property owner told Police he later heard loud screams at about 03:30hrs on Sunday and when he looked out, he saw Duguid pulling the woman by her hair, while one of the suspects (another female Venezuelan national) held on to Duguid’s waist from the back.
Duguid was beaten and chopped to death during the altercation and his body left inside a drain.
