Businessman accused of conspiring to traffic marijuana remanded to prison

A 30-year-old businessman was on Monday charged with conspiring to traffic more than 11,000 grams of marijuana three weeks ago at Eccles, East Bank Demerara.

It is alleged that on August 11, Steve Bacchus, a resident of Sophia, Georgetown, conspired with others to commit the crime.

Senior Magistrate Sunil Scarce read the charge to Bacchus when he appeared at the Diamond/ Golden Grove Magistrate’s Court.

Bacchus pleaded not guilty and was remanded to prison.

The case was adjourned to October 13 for disclosure.

Bacchus was arrested on August 31 by a rank from the Alberttown Police Station.
