Cyclist, 73, dies after struck by car

Abdool Mohamed, 73, died Sunday night after he was allegedly struck by a motor car on the Harlem Public Road, West Coast Demerara (WCD).

Police Headquarters reported that the accident occurred at about 18:20hrs.

At the time, Mohamed was riding an electric cycle. He was allegedly struck by a motorcar, PAE 4134, driven by a 26-year-old resident of Belle West, Canal No. 2, West Bank Demerara.

According to a Police report, the car was heading west along the public road when the driver alleged that Mohamed rode across the road.

As a result, the car collided with Mohamed’s electric cycle.

As a result of the collision, Mohamed fell onto the road surface and sustained injuries on his body.

He was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver was arrested and taken into custody.

Police said he was subjected to a breathalyser test but no trace of alcohol was detected.

Mohamed’s body is presently at Ezekiel Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
