New Indian High Commissioner appointed

Dr. Amit Shivkumar Telang has been appointed the next High Commissioner of India to Guyana, the South-Asian country’s Ministry of External Affairs announced on Tuesday.

Telang, the ministry said, currently serves as the Consul General at the Consulate General of India in Frankfurt, Germany. He is expected to take up his assignment in Guyana shortly.

Dr. Telang graduated and earned his Masters degree from Government Medical College, Nagpur and briefly served as a Medical Officer and as a Lecturer before joining government service in 2004 first in the Indian Revenue Service and later the Indian Foreign Service in 2005.

He has previously served as the Head of Political Wing in Embassy of India, Berlin and subsequently as Head of Economic and Commercial Wing in Embassy of India, Moscow.

At the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi, he has served in the External Publicity Division, Administration Division and East Asia Division.

The website of the Consul General of India in Germany noted that Dr. Telang’s interests include classical music and reading, especially philosophy, and world history. He speaks English and German. He is married and has one daughter.

Outgoing Indian High Commissioner Dr. K. J. Srinivasa left Guyana in August as he was needed for duties in his homeland at the Ministry of Foreign External Affairs and for the upcoming G20 Summit.
